Old age is not a death sentence for joints

In old age, the prevalence of diseases of the joints and spine is epidemic. Despite this, as a rule, medical institutions do not like to carry out non-surgical treatment of joints and spine in the elderly. Due to the extremely low effectiveness of such treatment.

When elderly patients go to the hospital and present their complaints, they often hear in response from medical workers: “What do you want, how old are you? This can no longer be cured! And then the sick person begins to perceive his diagnosis as hopelessness, as a sentence.

But is this approach legitimate for elderly patients? Is old age synonymous with sore joints and spine?

Let's just pay attention to a few facts:

Firstly, if you compare different people aged, say, 80 years, you will find that not all of them have problems with the musculoskeletal system. Yes, for most, but not for all. Everyone has seen people aged 80-90 years who have practically no pain.

Secondly, if an elderly person has pain in his right knee, then his left knee may not hurt at all. And if both knees hurt, then the elbow joint may not hurt at all. But both knees and elbows are the same number of years old.

Thirdly, if a person, say, 70 years old, had pain in one of his joints 1 year ago, and a year ago he had no pain at all. That's because One would hardly think that it began only a year ago. It started much earlier. Arthrosis of the joints develops over many years. The above facts clearly illustrate the lack of a direct connection between old age and pain in the joints and spine. Old age is not a diagnosis, much less a sentence. Being at a certain age does not mean 100% having a bunch of diseases. The same applies to treatment options in old age. The phrase “At this age it can no longer be cured!” in fact, it should never sound! If there is a problem, you need to look for ways to solve it, regardless of the age of the sick person.

Let us illustrate the above with several striking examples from the lives of famous people:

Former US President George H. W. Bush made a parachute jump on his 90th birthday. This is already his 8th jump.

At the age of 91, pensioner Joanna Kaas entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest gymnast. Ms. Kaas has already won 11 medals at the championship among senior athletes, although she claims that she does gymnastics solely for her own pleasure.

Belgorod resident Maria Koltakova is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a participant in the Battle of Kursk and the operation to liberate Auschwitz. At the front she was a medical instructor and carried out more than 80 wounded soldiers from battles. At the age of 96, Maria Denisovna flew in a wind tunnel for the first time in her life. And this is far from her first extreme experience. Maria Koltakova also has experience with skydiving.

Rose Gerrardtrains at the Ki Federation of Great Britain.

And here is our Nina Romanovna Kirilenko.

In early childhood I was involved in acrobatics, and already around the 5th grade I started doing athletics. By the way, he still does it to this day. She participates in many competitions in Ukraine, often travels to Belarus, and is invited to competitions. Now he runs 5 and 10 km distances. He also runs a half marathon – 21 km. I left the marathon for now because I now devote more time to aikido.

At the age of 71, in October 2017 in Kyiv, she successfully passed the certification for 2nd dan (black belt).

And there are many more such examples.

We express our gratitude to the President of the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Aikido Federation I.G.Snitivker and the trainer of the federation G.E.Kaliner for providing some of the materials used in this article.

The original method of treatment of joints and spine used in theArthroklinik Akta®is used at any age, including elderly patients in the absence of absolute contraindications for this. This happens because the technique is used to treat a specific disease, the symptoms and manifestations of which do not depend on age.
